This year, the Royal Melbourne Hospital celebrates 175 years of caring for the Victorian community.
As Victoria’s first public hospital the RMH has touched the lives of millions of Australians, and over the past 175 years we have been proud to:
- Care for and support people touched by illness and injury – In 1963 the RMH carried out the first successful kidney transplant in Australia, and in 2019 we performed our 1000th live kidney transplant.
- Provide essential services and expert advice in times of crisis and disaster – the RMH was proud to serve our community at the forefront of Victoria’s fight against COVID-19.
- Achieve breakthroughs in research and innovation, with life-changing outcomes for people both here and around the world – In 1965 the RMH developed Australia’s first cardiac pacemaker and in 2016 we conducted a world-first stem cell trial to treat Parkinson’s disease.
While we celebrate the history of the RMH, we can also look forward to an exciting future ahead as our hospital develops to meet the ever-growing demands within our community. To accomplish this, we need to invest in our talented workforce, the latest equipment and technology, and support new research from benchtop to bedside.
By purchasing a ticket in the Home Lottery, you can be proud that your support is helping to impact millions of Victorians and ensure the RMH is always there when it matters most – for you and your loved ones.
Thank you for your support.
